Job Check and Job Token
The Job Check is the second step in the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process. After a New Zealand employer obtains accreditation, they must get approval for each specific job they want to fill with a migrant worker. Sunrise Immigration Services provides comprehensive support to New Zealand employers throughout this process.
What is a Job Check?
A Job Check verifies that:
- The employer has made genuine attempts to hire New Zealanders for the role (if required)
- The job meets New Zealand employment standards
- The job pays at least the minimum required wage
- The terms and conditions of employment comply with New Zealand law
Once a Job Check is approved, the employer receives a Job Token that they can provide to a migrant worker, who can then apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa.
Job Check Requirements
Advertising Requirements
You must advertise the job unless it:
- Is on the Green List and meets the Green List requirements, or
- Pays at least NZD $59.32 an hour
When advertising, you must include:
- Job title and location
- Job description with details of key tasks, duties, and responsibilities
- Minimum and maximum rate of pay or salary, or estimated actual earnings
- Type of work and minimum guaranteed hours
- Minimum skills, experience, and qualifications required
Advertising duration depends on the job's ANZSCO skill level:
- ANZSCO skill level 1, 2, or 3: minimum 14 days
- ANZSCO skill level 4 or 5: minimum 21 days
Work and Income Engagement
For ANZSCO skill level 4 or 5 jobs, you must engage with Work and Income to see if they can find someone in New Zealand to do the job. This is required in addition to advertising.
Work and Income will either:
- List the job, or
- Determine they cannot fill the vacancy
If Work and Income refers candidates who could be suitable, you must interview them.
Note: You must apply for a Job Check within 90 days of your job advertisement closing.
